A STATEMENT OF AIMS FOR THE SCHOOL

This statement was produced jointly by the Governors and staff of Old Sodbury School

At Old Sodbury School we aim to:

1) create a considerate, tolerant safe yet challenging atmosphere in which to build and enlarge the children's knowledge, skills, understanding and appetite for learning.

2) to work with the children, their families and the church to develop positive attitudes to learning, good moral values, a sense of social responsibility and spiritual awareness.

3) to be responsive to each child as an individual and to ensure that, as far as they are able, they gain the essential skills for learning, self-motivation, enthusiasm and resourcefulness so that they achieve the highest standards they can intellectually, personally, socially and physically.

We intend to achieve these aims through:

1) providing each child with a well planned, broad curriculum in accordance with the National Curriculum and its assessment and concentrating on the development and extension of each child's abilities in the essential skills of oracy, literacy, numeracy and Information Technology.

2) high but realistic expectations of each child in terms of standards of achievement in relation to his or her capabilities and behaviour ensuring that children understand what is acceptable in terms of work and behaviour.

3) establishing good interpersonal relationships at all levels.

4) valuing all the children and their achievements.

5) working closely with parents to share with them their children's progress and the school curriculum and its teaching, encouraging involvement in their childrens learning, behaviour, school activities and functions.

6) involving, maintaining and extending links with the church and the community.
