Behaviour
The school is warm and friendly. Children are encouraged to see the effects of their attitudes and behaviour on the school community and on their own progress and quality of life. Your support is important so that children learn quickly the sort of conduct that is acceptable in terms of the good behaviour and manners needed for living together in a close community. The school has a clear policy on Positive Behaviour which relates to all those who work in the visit the school whether they are young or old. The aims of the policy are to ensure everyone's well being and safety, to recognise that each person has rights and an individual personality and to maintain a happy, harmonious, working school.
Personal dignity and self respect are the foundations of self discipline. Rules are kept to a minimum and are based on common sense so that they can be explained to the children. When punishment has to be imposed the particular sanction will be decided in the light of the seriousness of the offence, the pupil's previous behaviour and the response to acceptable standards. Sanctions may involve a child giving up his own time, the withdrawal of privileges or more likely the expression of disapproval by the teacher concerned.
It is important that there is a close supportive relationship between the school and parents for the benefit of the children. A team approach means that the school will contact and inform parents should behaviour problems be persistent, out of character or worrying.
It must be stated that at Old Sodbury we have children of whom we and their parents can be justly proud. There are very few problems are rarely do we have anything as serious as the above might suggest. Indeed the sensible behaviour and good manners of the children from our school is a source of great satisfaction and has often been praised when they are out on visits.
