Music at Old Sodbury
At Old Sodbury CE Primary we are passionate about our music education and believe wholeheartedly that it should be an integral part of the children's curriculum diet. At Old Sodbury the children have 1 hr lessons in music every fortnight and they are taught by the music coordinator. During these lessons they get to perform, compose and improvise as well as learn some basic rudiments of theory. We have a school choir and participate in "Young Voices" every year in Birmingham. We put on a huge end of year production as well as participate in a music concert with our alliance of schools. We also have a performing arts club running at school.
Music education can help spark a child's imagination or ignite a lifetime of passion. When you provide a child with new worlds to explore and challenges to tackle, the possibilities are endless. Music education should not be a privilege for a lucky few, it should be a part of every child's world of possiblity.
At Old Sodbury we use the Churanga scheme of work. Please see the overview for the year below.
Children are assessed on the different strands of musical learning.
