Welcome to Chestnut's class page. Here you will find updates on our learning as well as information about what we will be learning next! We can't wait to showcase all we do...

Useful information.

PE this term will take place on Tuesday's and Thursday's. Please send your child in their PE kit on these days. (White tops and black joggers/leggings/shorts with trianers).

Reading books will be changed on a Thursday. Please attempt to read on three separate occasions with your child at home during the week, This helps your child to consolidate the phonics they have been learning in class. Reading books should come to school daily so that adults can read 1:1 with children.

Equipment for this class is provided in coloured pots on tables. Children will need to bring a water bottle and their school reading book daily. They may also bring a healthy snack such as a fruit pouch, vegetable sticks or a cereal bar as an alternative to the daily piece of fruit/vegetable provided by school.

Term 4

In Term 4 we will be learning 'What grows near us?' for our science based mission!

This term we are exploring artwork created by Utagawa Hiroshige, looking closely at his prints of blossoms, branches and trees! We have come to the forest to immerse ourselves in representing the nature around us. Chestnut children have taken bark and leaf rubbings, made muddy leaf prints and engaged in sketching parts of trees!

Chestnut Class are very proud of their final art prints, created from their own collagraphs. These paintings are their individual responses to our art enquiry this term; What can we learn about trees?

FOREST SCHOOL

We have really enjoyed learning how to use tools safely this term! We have used palm drills to make holes into slices of wood and create our own decorations.

Class Book

We've been enjoying emersing ourselves in the story The Bog Baby by Jeanna Willis. We have learnt actions to go with the meanings of some key vocabulary and have even created our own bog babies to write stories about.

Class Trip to the Bristol Zoo Project!

Chestnut Class had a wonderful time exploring at the zoo. We particularly enjoyed the engaging talks and actvities helping us to consolidate our learning of animal classification. We were able to take a close look at animal features, including the dry scales of a skink and the large feathers of an ostritch! We even had time for some fun at the Explorers Basecamp!

Mission Splashdown!

We've been learning about the different ways animals can be classified this term, in our science based mission 'What Lives Where?' Here is a sample of our final pieces of work for Year 1 and Year 2 pupils to showcase our knowledge.
