Maths

This week in Maths we have practised the 'stable order principle' by rehearsing the order of the first 10 numbers.  We did this by looking at our numerals from 1-10 and representing each number with a print from painted number bricks.

Drawing Club - Barry the Fish with Fingers

Over the last two weeks, we have been delighted to welcome Hazel class parents in to watch a Drawing Club lesson. This week we explored the text ‘Barry the Fish with Fingers’ in Drawing Club. The children used their imaginations to create wonderful drawings, alongside their all important phonics and number code!

Maths

We have been learning about the composition of number 5.  We used the song 5 little speckled frogs to help us.  We then explored this during our independent learning time and created our own part whole diapgrams.

This week we looked at 'Why do Christians celebrate Jesus's birthday?  A parcel arrived in our classroom and the class discovered it was a birthday package.  We discussed our own experiences of birthdays, what they mean to us and why they are special.

Reading Club

This week in Hazel Class we started 'Reading Club'.  Each group read and discussed one of our wonderful books and started to learn how to answer questions and about a text.

Anti-Bullying Week

This week we took part in Anti-Bullying Week.  We started by looking at the story 'Elmer' and discussed how he is unique in his very own way.  We made our own individual odd sock puppets and created an Elmer Garland.  We also celebrated Remembrance Day and Interfaith Day.

Theme

This term our theme is 'Let's Celebtrate'.  Lots of us went or are going to firework displays, so we decided to create our very own firework pieces of art.  We hope you enjoy them.

Mastering Number

In Hazel Class we have been developing a deep understanding of the composition of 4.  We created our own 'Stampoline' patterns.

DT

In Hazel Class we have been creating models of hedgehogs using clay. We have used tools various materials, tools, and techniques, experimenting with design, texture and form. The children used their imagination to create, invent, and problem-solve their sculptures. The children demonstrated confidence to use simple tools purposefully to mould and shape the clay. We had a little bit of extra fun and named our hedgehogs too.

RE

This week in RE our learning focus has been 'What place is special to Christians?'  We went for a visit to our local church and discussed why this is a special place of worship.  We looked at and identified the key features of a church, which included the alter, stained glass windows and the Bible.

Art

As part of our theme, I Am Special I Am Me, Hazel Class painted self-portarits, using a mirror to look at the details on on face.  We also talked about how we are all similiar and different to each other.

Phonics and PE

Hazel Class commenced phonic lessons at Old Sodbury Primary School, utilising the Unlocking Letters and Sounds programme. The children have demonstrated commendable listening skills to say the phonemes and have made significant efforts in writing graphemes. Additionally, we have completed our first full week of school. A particular highlight was our PE session, where we donned our space boots and embarked on a journey to Mars through a captivating PE story, relishing the experience of moving in slow motion. The enthusiasm for learning has been truly inspiring.

Outdoor Learning

Our first week of staying for lunch.  We have also been getting use to our outdoorlearning environment.  Hazel class particularly enjoyed solving their puzzle pictures of their faces.  What a great week!
